I share office space with a group of
hypnotherapists who specalize in helping people lose weight.
I have always focused my practice on helping people quit smoking
because I personally know how difficult it is to stop
the smoking habit.
Since I have never had an issue with
weight I could never grasp the difficulty in eating less and
exercising more. Then I started to read some of their
training materials and listening to the hypnosis and training
sessions. For the first time, I realized that for some
people being over the weight that they would like to
weigh is less about food and diets but simply just
the eating and living habits they have
developed. For others, their mind is constantly
sabotaging their efforts to lose weight.
I went to Katie Evans, the creator of the weight
loss program, and explained that if she would produce a DVD to go
along with all her other great materials I would market the
program outside the state of Washington where she has focused her
weight loss program. My original goal was to market her program to
other hypnotists wanting to utilize a successful weight loss
program.
She agreed to videotape one of her two day
seminars and suggested that I attend. Each session started
with a meditation period and ended with a short hypnosis
session. During the first session she suggested
that we would no longer be part of the CLEAN YOUR
PLATE club.
As a youngster growing up on a
Midwest farm, we were always told about the starving children
in China and that in order to grow up to be big and strong we
had to eat all the food on our plate. I have followed that
rule for a lifetime. why wouldn't I....I was not one to argue
with my Mother...especially since she could whip me at arm
wrestling until I was 17.
Now here is when it starts getting
interesting. I left the Saturday DVD session and went to my
favorite Seattle restaurant....The Catfish
Corner....Catfish, coleslaw, corn bread muffins, collard
greens, potato salad, red beans and rice, and topped it off
with "Fresh" candied
yams.
Just about 2/3's of the way through the
meal.....just when I was starting to feel comfortable...from out of
the blue.....my unconsious mind says, "Now remember Bill you have
to leave some food on your plate!" Say
What?....I am now 65 years old and never once in my
life had that thought gone through my mind.
Now here is the real kicker, I have not had a
meal since the DVD week-end of January 21, 2006 in which my mind
has not reminded me to leave food on the plate.
All because of one brief hypnosis weight session
on how to lose weight.
Because of my experience, I realized
there were many people that have never really had a serious
eating problem, but they have just gotten in the habit of making
poor choices when it comes to food, and not doing the things they
need to do to get those pounds off. They are like a smoker,
they just have the habit of doing little things that are not good
for them.
They simply lack the motivation to make changes in their life. It's the life style choices a person makes that gets them to an undesirable weight and it is the new life style choices they make that will get them to their desired weight.
My attitude....That is Just the way it is
